Did you ever notice there are roughly three types that pass through Hondachopper.com? First are the Gimmes who show up wanting something. Be it parts, help, or
money, they are wanting something. Some could give a shit less about anything else. Some are just plain fucking assholes, and usually beat on fairly quickly.
There are three types of Gimmes. The first Gimme is the one that posts wanting help with something. They get their answers, have their problem solved, and then poof you rarely if ever see them again. Sometimes someone sends them something, usually free of charge or for shipping only in order to solve their problem. Sometimes there's a thanks, often not. In any case most of us never hear from them again, some never even letting us know if the problem was solved. Some pop in later on when they have yet another problem us servants and free mechanics on call can help them with and poof off they disappear again. These jackoffs seem to think everyone else is here to serve them.
The second Gimme is the one looking for freebies. Often someone will help with the freebie, or maybe only for shipping. These pricks will usually turn down even the most reasonable offers, or ignore them until someone comes along with the right price: Free. Once they have their shit, or if they don't get it reasonably fast, they also disappear never to be heard from again.
The third Gimme is of course the money grubbing shithead that is only interested in making that buck. They see the site as a free classified ad. Often they are asking a mint for their wares, and when this is pointed out often get combative and belligerent even to the point of dissing members. Whatever it is they are selling they act as if we have never seen or heard of it, or should be in awe and enamored with their "great generosity". Most stomp off having not sold their national treasure and are never hear from again. Others simply post and if there is no response are never heard from again.
Next are the Barters. These guys show up wanting to trade this for that. Usually they wanna trade their rusty crap for gold. They try flogging just about anything to achieve their goal. A very few wise up and remain, and actually become active members. Most shuffle off, a few with at least some of what they were after, others empty handed. Good riddance. We didn't want your crap anyway.
Lastly are the HanginOuts. These are the guys we all know and have come to enjoy catching up with, trading stories with, helping and being helped by, and more or less friends. Guys with extremely diversified backgrounds, beliefs, preferences, histories, incomes, appearances, and so on, but with one difference compared to the others mentioned above. A respect we all share for the old Honda CB750s and a passion for making them our own, a reflection of ourselves. Guys who for the most part put aside differences to focus on our common interests.
Some time ago I joined to ask a few questions, but also because for many years I was a loner in the crowd, that oddball ricer in the pack, always having to defend my right to ride what I choose and at times fighting for it. More than once I spit out broken teeth over my Honda Chop. I like to think I've become a HanginOut.
To those Gimmes and Barters just passing through, I have a message from Walter: "Get your shit and get out". Those of you who find a home away from home, pull up a shop bench, grab a cold one, and let's get to wrenchin'!

JPS, I'm afraid you've definitely become a Hanginaround, and bitten by the bug. It's incurable, but the upside is you are guaranteed to have a blast from here on out. But, I'm sure you're already there. It wouldn't surprise me if in a year or two's time you'll be building chops to fill your garage in your sleep.
Rock on!
